FS2 Shape Hunt!
13th Feb 2019
We have been talking about 'shapes' in our Number-Time sessions and have discussed the difference between 2D shapes and 3D shapes.
All the children went around school, in their 'House' team groups, hunting for 3D shapes. During our journey we saw (and named) a lot of 2D shapes too!
We tried to use lots of mathematical language, for example:
- "The microwave is a cuboid!"
- "There are lots of cylinders in here!" (The staff room coffee jars and biscuit barrel!)
- "The candles are cylinders and there are two of them!"
- "These are Sophia's spheres!" (Talking about the globes in the Y5 classroom)
The children were very excited to find the shapes and we even found some cones in the playground but unfortunately they were traffic cones and not the ice-cream variety!
