Diocese of Hallam

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hallam comprises the County of South Yorkshire, parts of the High Peak and Chesterfield, districts of Derbyshire and the district of Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire. It is under the patronage of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, whose feast is celebrated as a solemnity in the Diocese on the 27th June.

Hallam Diocese was formed on 30th May 1980 following the division of the Dioceses of Leeds and Nottingham.  It is one of the six suffragan sees in the ecclesiastical Province of Liverpool. Hallamshire is an ancient name for an area. Please click here for more information.

Our Diocese is led by Bishop Ralph Heskett was born on 3rd March 1953, in Sunderland. On 28th August 1971 he professed, becoming a Member of Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and in July 1976 he was ordained.

On 18th March 2010, he was appointed Bishop of Gibraltar by Pope Benedict XVI and on 20th  May 2014, he was appointed as the third Bishop of Hallam by Pope Francis, succeeding Bishop John Rawsthorne.

He was installed on 10th July 2014 in a joyous ceremony at St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield attended by representatives of different groups from right across the Diocese, including pupils from our community.

Bishop Ralph is a great friend of our school and has visited several times. He has met various Chaplaincy Teams and led the celebration of a special Mass of Thanksgiving to mark our Diamond Jubilee in 2017. More recently he blessed our newly refurbished library, named in honour of a former teacher, Marie Kerley, who was a passionate advocate of reading, who left school a generous legacy.

We are very proud of our strong links with the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes with St Anthony. Our Parish Priest, Fr Bede, is also a great friend of our school community and does much to support our Catholic life. This is a link to the parish website.
