Y1: Amazing Animals

8th Nov 2019

We have started our 'Animals' topic this week.

In English we have been thinking about pets we may have and writing sentences about them, focusing on punctuation and using a adjective to describe.

Later this week we will be using the conjunction 'and' to join 2 separate sentences:

e.g. It is a cat and it is black.

We have also been sorting animals into different groups that the children decided upon. For example, a group for animals with two legs and another for animals with four

Other ideas included fur and no fur, legs and no legs, farm animals and non-farm animals.

In the coming weeks we will go on to classify animals as mammals, fish, insects, birds, reptiles and amphibians and sort them in ti these groups.

We will also do investigations to discover different animal body parts that humans do not have e.g. tusks, tails, horns, pouches, fins and webbed feet.

If you have a pet at home and have not yet done so, please send in a NAMED photo for our pet gallery! Thank you.
