Y1 Art: Exploring Print, Texture and Pattern

15th Jan 2024

Here is a word from Mrs Hadfield and Mrs Sambrook

Last week we began a new art focus linked to the exploration of print, pattern and texture.

The children thought carefully about where they see patterns, e.g. number patterns, patterns on clothing and in other places such as wallpaper and carpet.

The children explored and discussed examples of patterns on various different tiles as well as the designs of William Morris. They then worked in pairs to as they went on a 'texture pattern hunt' and created rubbings of these using a wax crayon. In our next lesson the children will use their rubbings as the basis of a personal design they will create and develop.
