Y1: Australia

2nd Jun 2019

On Monday the children started learning about Australia as part of the whole-school 'SJF International week 2019'.

Their investigations started by locating Australia using Google maps and atlases.

They then considered the location, the size of the country and how they might travel there.

The children also learned that the country is made up of different states and listened to a song to help them learn their names.

After lunch everyone created some traditional aboriginal inspired art using dots and a range of 'earthy' colours.

Yesterday the children learned about the indigenous aboriginal people and their culture and compared aspects to their own lifestyles.

In PE we did 'Boogie Beebies'  to an Australian animal-inspired song and dance! It was great fun!

We have so learned so much this week already about this huge, exciting country and the children have made a tremendous start.

Do ask them lots of questions especially if they come home excited and ready to tell you all about it!
