Y1 Be Safe Be Happy Week: Exploring Fire Safety at Home!

31st Oct 2021

Today we were very excited to have a visit from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue based at Birley Station. The children were able to meet real firefighters see an appliance cloe-up.

Afterwards the children learned all about staying safe in the home.

Some of the key points included:

  • know how to call 999 and your address
  • know your fire plan to exit the house
  • know how to STOP, DROP and ROLL
  • never play with matches or fire
  • HAVE A WORKING SMOKE ALARM and test it weekly
  • get out and stay out of the property
  • stay low in the event of fire and NEVER hide

The children then created their own fire safety poster for one of the key messages.

Parents and carers please talk to your children about the above points in your home to keep them and you safe.

They have been asked to talk to you about how to make a 999 call from your mobile and house phone and to check whether you have a working smoke alarm at home.
