Y2: Visit to Birley Fire Station
Today we all visited Birley Fire Station!
We have been investigating the differences between the Fire Brigade in 1667 and the Fire Service now.
Fireman Andy met us and our parent helpers at the entrance and showed us the engine room.
Unfortunately, we could not use the hose today as the fire engine was broken and was being fixed by the mechanic. However, we were able to see the engines and all the interesting equipment attached to the vehicle!
Did you know that the ladders can reach 13.5m in height?
After that, we had a good look around the fire station. It was really interesting! We saw the pole room, the gymnasium, he dormitories (where firefighters rest), the kitchen, the warden room and the Fire Office!
It was fun to see what the firefighters and support staff do whilst they are on duty!
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make our visit possible.
All the children really enjoyed the visit!
