Y1: Classifying Animals

17th Nov 2019

We have been learning to classify animals into the following groups: mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects.

The children have been investigating some of the key features of each, for example:

  • mammals are warm blooded and give birth to their young
  • birds are warm blooded and have a beak and feathers
  • amphibians are cold blooded and live on land and in water
  • reptiles are cold blooded and have ear holes (not ears)
  • fish have fins rather than legs and lay their eggs in water

Children participated in some drama activities; pretending to be some of the animals in each of the groups.
