Update: SJF Eco Team - Cut Your Carbon Challenge!

8th Nov 2024

Here is a message from Mrs Steenson, Coordinator

This week, our SJF Eco Team met to discuss our plans to share our ideas from our October focus which was, “Cut Your Carbon”. The team decided that they want to promote awareness through a whole-school assembly, which they will prepare and lead themselves - setting a carbon-cutting challenge for their classmates and teachers!

The team will also use their assembly to answer lots of questions other children might have, including:

  • What are carbon emissions?
  • Why is it important to reduce them?
  • How can we make simple changes at home and at school to cut our carbon footprint?

The children are also setting a challenge: Can you cut your carbon in November? consisting of six small changes that we can all try to make, which will have a significant impact on the effect of carbon emissions on our planet. This challenge is open to children and staff, and we are hoping to gather significant data about how our community has altered their carbon footprint in just one month!

Jai, one of our Y6 Eco Team members, is excited about the prospect of challenging his friends and teachers...

“We should make sure all the teachers are competing too and see who can cut their carbon the most! I’m looking forward to seeing the results, and to host the assembly with the rest of the team.”

Our SJF Eco Team assembly will be held later this month, with the challenge live right now! If you can complete the challenges at home, let us know by returning the Cut Your Carbon checklist to your class teacher before 30th of November 2024. The Challenges are available from our SJF Eco Team members.
