SJF Eco Team Update

11th Oct 2024

The Annual Environmental Review

This week, the SJF Eco Team met to discuss the results of our recent Environmental Review.

To begin, we had a positive conversation about the areas where progress has been made and we have achieved a great level of success after years of hard work by our school community.

In total, our school managed to score over 40 positive points on the 'Environmental Review', which is absolutely amazing! Some of our most successful areas included global citizenship, waste and litter, healthy travel choices and maintenance of our wonderful outdoor spaces.

After a discussion about which new areas we should work on next, based on our locality; relevance to our age group; and practicality, the team came up with a list of challenges for this new school year that will help us to narrow our focus.

As part of this, Niamh and Charlotte, two of our Y5 members, have come up with some great ideas to support Mr Ramsden, our caretaker, with his amazing work on keeping our school litter-free.

“We could help Mr Ramsden with the litter picking around the outskirts of the school grounds. The yard has lots of bins for us to use, but litter could blow in from the fields around school. It would be nice to help him and recycle whatever we can.”

The Eco Team will meet to discuss our Monthly Topic next week. In October, we are concentrating on a “Cut Your Carbon” focus, and will share how we get on in our next update.
