Y1 Geography: Investigating the Local Area & Maps

13th Mar 2022

Last week the children enjoyed participating in our Geography fieldwork around the local area. They made important observations and collected information that we used in our learning this week.

We recalled all of the features that we saw (both human and physical) and considered why these features are in the area.

We again looked at maps, both street and aerial views, and decided that to draw our route from scratch would be tricky.

The children looked at a station map of the famous London Underground map and noted how the various stations are represented in a linear way.

The children then created their own linear maps based on our local walk we did, adding in the different features they saw. Finally the children added a key - H for 'human' and Ph for 'physical feature'.
