Y1 Science: Healthy Eating

25th Jun 2021

Today the children have been thinking about being healthy and in particular what foods are healthy or less so.

We began by reading the story of 'The Healthy Wolf' and then sorted different pictures of food into those which are healthy and and those which are unhealthy.

The children discussed their choices and decided that although there are lots of healthy foods it is ok to eat some unhealthy foods, as long as they are a treat and not eaten all of the time.

We thought about what a good balanced meal was and what one might look like; with a mixture of foods such as vegetables, meats, protein and carbohydrates.

The children then designed their own balanced meal.

We finished the lesson by discussing that though very important, food alone does not make us (and keep us) healthy, and that we also need sleep, exercise and to be cared for too!
