Y1 History: Investigating Toys Old and New

21st Oct 2024

Our Y1 children were joined by a special visitor who brought a treasured toy with her. It was around 70 years old.  The children thought carefully about what they wanted to know, before asking some questions.

They discovered that the teddy was much harder than some had expected and unlike modern teddies that are 'soft filled', our visitor's bear was filled with straw. She explained that she did not have many toys but was allowed to play outside without adults, and with her skipping rope and hoop too.

The children thought about how things have changed, sharing thoughts on some of the differences between now and then. Following the visit, the children recalled what they remembered and had learned.
