Y5 Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

5th Feb 2025

Monday 27th January 2025 was Holocaust Memorial Day. This year it was the 80th aniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, where so many innocent people suffered and died.

The young people of Y5 marked this day exploring on at the treatment of the Jewish people and other persecuted minorities in Germany during the 1930's, as well especially the long list of things that Jewish people were not allowed to leave.

The children were startled by the similarities that we found in the treatment of black people in some states in the USA in the 1950's and 1960's. Unlike America, the discrimination in Germany led directly to the imprisonment, maltreatment and deaths of many millions of people.

The children reflected on why it is important to continue marking this important date so that we can help ensure that theese events are not ever repearted now and in the furure.

Eternal rest
Grant unto them O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon them
May they rest in peace. Amen.
