Important Updates & Reminders

4th Mar 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are planning to open at the usual time tomorrow (05-03-18). Due to weather conditions the children will be admitted straight into the School Hall and remain there until the 'Get Set, GO!' sessions start at 8.45am. KIDZONE is also planning to open the before school Breakfast Club at the usual time.

If conditions are safe, those children who want to, will be allowed outside at breaktime. If you are happy for your child to play outside please send her/him with suitable footwear and a change of clothes, in case s/he gets wet.

Here are some updates and reminders for you:

  • Lenten Preparation: You are all invited to simple class Lenten liturgies each Monday and Tuesday leading up to Holy Week (the last week of term). The liturgies will start tomorrow (Monday) at 3.00pm for Years 3-6 and on Tuesday at 3.00pm for FS2 and Years 1 and 2. They will follow a similar format to the Advent liturgies leading up to Christmas. Please arrive at the school entrance at 2.55pm and sign in. The liturgies will continue for the next three weeks of Lent - so the last two will take place on Monday 19th (for Years 3-6) and Tuesday 20th March 2018 (for FS2 and Years 1 and 2). Please note there will be no class liturgies in the last week of term (Holy Week).
  • World Book Day: This will take place next Thursday 8th March 2018. A reminder that children and staff can come to school dressed as their favourite book character. Please note many great book characters wore simple costumes and/or everyday clothes, so please do not feel that you have to go to any expense or trouble. Please remember that the PTFA will be collecting £1 on the gate from children wishing to dress up on the day.
  • Liturgy of the Word: This week's Liturgy of the Word will be led by the children of Y2 (08-03-18). The family and friends of our Y2 pupils are invited to join us in the School Hall from 9.00am. (Please note that the children can wear their book character costumes when they do their liturgy).
  • Yellow Day: The pupils of St David's House will now celebrate the feast of St David on Friday 9th March. This means that they can come to school wearing something yellow instead of their usual school uniform. The children in the three other Houses must wear full school uniform on that day however.
  • Celebration Assembly: We invite the family and friends of our Y3 pupils to join us in the School Hall at 2.55pm for our Celebration Assembly next Friday 9th March 2018.
  • Penny War 2018: Don't forget to send your children with copper and silver coins for this year's 'Penny War'! This is in aid of the Bishop's Lenten Good Shepherd Appeal. Remember copper coins can be used to build a class points total and silver coins can be used to take points off other classes. The winning class is the one that has the most points left once the penalties have been taken off.
  • Footwear: Children should wear suitable footwear to and from school and a break-times (if we are able to get outside). This includes wellington boots, other high boots, walking boots and trainers. Our uniform standards are extremely important, as is your support in helping us to maintain them. Pupils are therefore expected to wear proper school shoes once they are in school. Boots and trainers can be left in the cloakroom. Please note that we do not view any trainers as school shoes, even all-black trainers. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
  • Extreme Reading: Thank you to those who sent in extreme reading photographs! It is not too late! Please do not forget to send them in via our general school email address (enquiries@st-johnfisher.org). Thank you.
  • The Oasis: Work to complete 'The Oasis', our new outdoor learning area stalled last week, because of the adverse weather conditions. Work will therefore continue next week. If the playground is clear/safe the children will access and exit school as follows: FS2 - usual entrance; Years 1 and 2 - door nearest Y6; Years 3 and 4 - usual entrance; Y5 - external classroom door; and Y6 - external classroom door. If the playground is icy and dangerous however then all children will enter/exit school via the usual double doors (nearest Y6 classroom) and we appreciate your patience. Thank you.

I would like to thank you all again for your patience and understanding with the disruption caused by the adverse weather last week.

Kind regards,

Mr Barratt - Headteacher
