It’s Gold!

16th Jun 2019

We have received some fantastic news!

As a result of the hard work and dedication of Mrs Broadhead supported by Mr Cross (our PE apprentice); the Sports Leaders and Majors, our school received the gold award from the ‘Your School Games organisation’ for the second year in a row!

This prestigious award is determined by the quality of our PE provision, extracurricular activities and by how well our school engages in a range of citywide sports competitions and festivals.

Evidence is gathered and scrutinised carefully before the award is made. It is a rigorous process and requires hard work to be sustained over the whole year. This hugely significant accomplishment is therefore a great reflection on our fantastic pupils; colleagues; and especially the hard work of Mrs Broadhead who coordinates this important aspect of school life.

It is also important to pay tribute to the many parent volunteers who support us all so brilliantly at all the events, come rain or shine! We could not do it without you!

Here is a note from Mrs Broadhead:

We are delighted to announce that St John Fisher has achieved the ‘School Games Gold Mark Award’ for the 2018/19 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, as part of the London 2012 Olympic legacy. It's purpose is to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition and engagement across their school and into the community.

Our sporting achievements this year include:

  • orienteering - finalists
  • Sheffield athletics - finalists
  • rowing - gold medal
  • skipping – gold medalists
  • ultimate frisbee - medalists
  • ‘Go Ride’ – finalists
  • Family Boot Camp                                …amongst many others!

With a total of one hundred young people from our school competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of all our participants for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including the young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to provide evidence in the following areas:

  • participation
  • competition
  • workforce
  • clubs

We are delighted that the hard work of everyone at our school has been recognised and rewarded this year. A special thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us directly to achieve this award. It has been a huge team effort!

We look forward to applying once again in 2020!
