Y1: Investigating Our Local Area!

1st Jul 2019

We have been thinking about our school's local area.

We began by thinking about our world, continent, country, city and finally the area of Hackenthorpe around school.

We used 'Google Maps' and conventional paper maps and atlases to help our investigations.

The children thought about the features they might see around school, for example, trees, houses, flats, shops, grassy areas and more.

We then began our expedition, taking clip boards with us in order to record the things that we saw.

Many of the children's predictions were spot on!

We also discovered postboxes, bus stops, Birley Baths, another school and three other churches! Amazing!

The children will now use their notes in order to help them create their very own linear map, depicting their expedition, using both words and pictures.

Once these are complete we will post photos on the class blog.
