Y1 Detectives: Investigating Materials

28th Feb 2020

Building on the work we started in STEM Week, today we named objects and discussed the material they were made from.

We then considered the properties of each and used related vocabulary such as:

  • hard
  • soft
  • rigid
  • flexible
  • opaque
  • transparent

The children went on a special 'materials hunt', searching for objects made from a given material or objects that had specific properties.

For example, when they tried to find things which were transparent, they spotted the window and a drinking glass!

When they searched for an item made from wood, they identified the staffroom door and pencils!

Everyone really enjoyed being detectives and it was fun taking our learning outside of the classroom!
