Y1 Mathematics: Investigating Numbers!

20th Sep 2023

This week the children have been investigating numbers up to 10.

In one activity the children worked in pairs. Partner 'A' picked a number card and partner 'B' used a Tens Frame  to represent that number on the frame, using counters.

Partner 'A' then moved some of the counters and partner 'B' checked that there were still the same number.

Children are learning that the number '8', for example, might look different on the Tens Frame but as long as the amount of counters remains the same, the total number of counters is still 8.

It is great to see how the children are getting more and more confident, especially when working with partners; following instructions; and most importantly, using the correct mathematical vocabulary, in full sentences, to explain what they are doing or have done.
