Y1 Mathematics: Exploring Tens and Ones
24th Feb 2023
The children have started learning how to count amounts of more than 10 in a more efficient way.
They had straws in pots and rather than count them all individually, the children created groups of 10 and then counted the straws that were left over. For example, 34 straws were grouped into three groups of 10 and then counted 10, 20, 30 and then 4 more added on, 31, 32, 33, 34.
Over the coming weeks we will be working to develop the children's use and understanding of place value.
