Y1 Mathematics: What can you do in 20 seconds?

Today we learned that one minute is the same as sixty seconds. 

We watched an egg timer for a minute.  It felt longer for some children and shorter for others. 

We then set a timer for 20 seconds and tested to see what we could manage to do in 20 seconds.

For example:

  • How many times could we write Monday? 
  • How many times can we flip a beanbag? 
  • How many star jumps can we do? 
  • How many cubes can we stack?

Children worked in small groups, to see what could be managed, recording each other's totals and then deciding who managed to do the most and least.
