Y1 Mathematics: Measuring Seconds!
26th Jan 2022
Today, as we continue to learn about time, the children were challenged to think about how long one minute is.
They learned that one minute is equal to 60 seconds and looked at the ‘second’ hand on a clock to confirm this, as they counted to 60 as it went around.
The children then used this knowledge in order to sort things that take more or less than a minute, for example:
- a ‘high five’ with a friend
- a family meal
- a walk to school
- eating 5 sweets
The children were then challenged to record what they could do in just 20 seconds.
The 20-second challenges included:
- how many star jumps they could manage
- how many times they could write their name
- how tall could they build a tower with cubes
Lots of fun had by everyone!
