Meet the Governors: Mrs Heather Beatson

29th May 2019

Hello, I am Heather Beatson. I am married to Craig and we have 2 amazing daughters, Bethany in Y5 and Katy in Y2. I work as a HR Policy Consultant for the Cabinet Office, and I enjoy the challenges that my job brings and feel that it has helped me to develop the skills that add value to my role as Governor here at St John Fisher.

I have been a Governor at the school for two and a half years now. I started by volunteering to go on school trips or help out in class when needed and after getting more involved with school - and seeing the passion and commitment from all the teachers and staff - I decided to go for it when the opportunity of parent Governor came up! I get involved in many different aspects of school as part of my role, from helping with recruitment to working closely with the Lead for Mathematics and PE as Curriculum Link-Governor. I am also the chair of the committee for Curriculum and Pupil Welfare.

As well as a Governor I am the current Secretary of the PTFA. Being on the PTFA committee can be a real challenge as planning things such as school discos, ‘Santa in School’, SJF Friday Fayre and helping out as much as we can at school in other areas takes time and dedication. If we had the time there is so much more that we could do for our fantastic school but sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day!

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and our wonderful friends. Whether that is going on holiday, for days out or having a party in the garden. I am also in a band with a few of my friends where I sing and play (or try to play!) the ukulele.

The thing I enjoy most about being a Governor and on the PTFA committee is spending time with the children across the school. Watching them develop and grow and sharing in their excitement as they share stories about what they have done or what activity they are involved in is amazing. As a former pupil myself, being able to contribute to the ethos and spirit of the school now makes me feel very proud.
