Multiplication
Recently the children have been working hard counting in steps of 2s, 5s and 10s. We often do this at the start of a maths lesson, lining up for lunch or just before break. The children are growing in confidence daily.
We will now use this as we begin to introduce repeated addition and how this links to multiplication. e.g. 2+2+2+2= 8 this is 4 lots of 2 4 groups of 2 4 X 2
The children will begin by using resources to see what it 'looks like'. They will then use counting in steps of 2 , 4 times to solve the problem.
We will then begin to say times tables. Children will refer to these written down too, to allow them to see the patterns in the numbers
You can support at home by asking your child to count in 2s (we've do to 30) , 10s (to 100) and then 5s (to 100).
