Y1 Geography: Exploring Our Local Area!

18th Jun 2021

Today the children enjoyed a walk around the local area.  We began the day by deciding what mean by the term 'local area'.

We then thought about our local area and considered what we might expect to see in it as the children thought about local human and physical features. We used a map of the route that we were going to follow and an aerial photograph to help us.

On the walk we spotted human features such as a church, a post box, pub, shops, schools and bus stops. We also observed physical features like trees and other green spaces on our walk.

Later in the week the children will use data collected in order to draw their own linear maps that represent their walk.
