Our New Statement of Belief

12th Mar 2022

Next week our ‘Statement of Belief’ is ‘I know it is ok to make mistakes’

Time to talk: We know that making mistakes is just part of learning. We know that making mistakes as we are learning is therefore ok. It is usual to make mistakes when we start to learn something new.

If we worry about making mistakes and are scared to make them, then we will become fearful learners. Fearful learners tend to find learning scarier and more difficult. They therefore tend to struggle to reach their potential because they do not like to try new things.

Trying new things is what confident learners are happier to do. Just having a go at something new is so important. Trusting grown-ups at school and at home when they encourage you to try new things, is a really positive thing to do. Understanding that making mistakes is just part of the learning process is also important because we can learn important lessons from our mistakes, if we have a positive attitude.

Can you think of a mistake that you once made, that ended up spurring you on to do (or be) even better at something? Perhaps when you learned to ride a bicycle without stabilisers for the first time?
