Y2 English: Questions! Questions! Questions!

10th Nov 2020

This week we are looking at questions.

The children know what a question mark looks like and they understand that it is used to demarcate the sentences that are also questions.

The children learned what a question is and some of the words we use to open a question, such as:

  • What?
  • How?
  • Where?
  • When?
  • Who?
  • Why?

The children even started to recognise different words to open questions like: are, may, if, can, could, should, do.

They should now be able to recognise that a question sentence usually starts with (1) a question opener; then (2) a verb; and then (3) a noun or pronoun.

For example, ‘When are you coming out to play?’

  1. ‘When’ is the question opener
  2. ‘are’ is the verb
  3. ‘you’ is the pronoun
