Y1 Science: Investigating Materials!

3rd Apr 2023

Today the children thought scientifically about different objects and materials and considered whether they were flexible or rigid.

They explored how to make flexible materials change shape by rolling, twisting, pulling, squashing and bending.  Some kept their new shape and some, the more elastic ones, tended to bounce back to their original shapes.

Everyone then manipulated salt dough in order to make their own decoration.

The dough needed to be squashed and cut to change the shape.

The children learned that their objects would go hard as they dried over time.

The children then talked about how their decorations and concluded that they will remain hard and not go back to being flexible.
