Y1 Science: Investigating Winter!

8th Jan 2024

Today the children were thinking about the season of winter.

They thought about weather; the amount of daylight compared to other times in the year; the behaviour of different animals; what happens to the trees; activities we do more in the winter and different human behaviours. AS they considered these things the children remembered the frosty day in December when they went out to explore the playground area.

The children then considered how winter differs from autumn - referring to their knowledge and the learning they did about autumn last term.

Some of the differences included the trees becoming fully bare (unless they are evergreen); everyone needing to wear warmer clothes due to the colder and shorter days. The children concluded that they do not like going home when it is getting dark.

The will use their observations and ideas from today in our English this week as they write a winter counting poem.
