Y1 Science: Investigating Seeds and Bulbs!
Today we have started a new Science topic that is focusing on plants.
We began by thinking about where all plants come from.
We then looked at different seeds and bulbs, and everyone planted their own runner bean seed and a nasturtium (flowering plant) seed. The children will then record their own observations and growth of their plants in their own plant diaries.
We also planned and set up an investigation to determine if a bulb actually needs soil in order to grow - or not.
You can support your child at home by looking at different plants, inside and outside, including garden flowers, wild flowers and even trees.
Can your child name the parts of the plant?
Do they know the names of common flowering plants such as: a daffodil, an iris, a rose, a poppy and a tulip?
Maybe you could plant seeds at home and watch them grow together. You could even take photographs and email them in to us so we can see how you get on (year1@st-johnfisher.org).
