SJF House Charity Fundraising: St George's House - The Great Paper Plane Race

16th Jun 2024

Over the next two weeks, the members of St George's House invite everyone to enter their amazing 'Paper Plane' competition, helping to raise money for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice charity.

Members have decided how the fundraiser will work. They have decorated posters and have even created their own, brilliant, "How to..." videos.

  • THE AIM: The aim of their fundraiser is to first create and decorate paper planes at home.
  • THE TASK: Then the children are invited to bring them into school along with the 50p per plane entry fee, which will be donated to the House charity.
  • THE DEADLINE: Wednesday the 26th of June.

Children can enter as many planes as they like, as long as they donate 50p per entry. There will be a prize for the best decorated plane, so do not forget to use your imagination! The sky is the limit!

PAPER PLANE RACE

There will also be a race that every child who enters can join in with.

Entrants will throw their planes for their House teams: St George, St David, St Andrew and St Patrick, earning points for their own Houses, with the House team with the most points overall winning smileys for their House team. Planes will gain points based on where they land, with 1, 5 or a huge 10 points up for grabs with every plane thrown.

This year's House smiley competition is close, and with just five weeks left every Smiley really will count for both the overall and whole-year competitions.

Please make your paper planes at home, decorate it however you like and bring it into school with 50p per plane on or before Wednesday 26th of June 2024 to be entered into the race, and to be in with a chance to win the 'best decorated plane' prize.

If you are unsure about how to create a paper plane, please see our tutorial videos that show how to make a simple paper plane, or a slightly more intricate design if you are up for a challenge. These videos were created by two of Y6 amazing members of St George's House, and we say a huge 'thank you' to Sam and Luca for their brilliant work.

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice opened in 1998, with the vision to help families in our area who wanted an alternative to hospital care.

Since then, fundraising has helped to support hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, north Derbyshire, north Nottinghamshire and parts of Lincolnshire. The charity has been there for families during the most difficult times of their lives, offering support to exhausted parents so they can get some much-needed time to rest. It has also looked after brothers and sisters who might be feeling confused, upset, angry or lonely.

The charity can only do their amazing work with charitable donations, which funds every day trip, and sensory play sessions.
