Y1: Tens, Ones & Place Value!

20th Jan 2020

The children of Y1 are making us so proud!

They have been learning how to represent a 'teens' number (13-19) using Base Ten (or Dienes) equipment.

They first count one stick of ten and then the ones

They are learning the rules about what goes into the tens part and what goes in to the ones part of their Maths Mats.

They are also trying hard to use this understanding. They have drawn a picture to represent a teens number (by drawing a tens stick and the ones as squares) and we have been using apparatus and pictures to help the children compare numbers and give reasons for answers.
