Y1 Geography: Investigating the Nations of the United Kingdom

23rd Apr 2022

In our Geography lessons recently the children used atlases to find the UK on a map of the world.

They then located the four nations that make up the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

They were encouraged to talk about the things they were discovering and compared the size of each UK nation, being careful to use our key vocabulary

  • north
  • south
  • east
  • west
  • England
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland

Next week we will investigate the capital cities of each of each of the UK nations.

You might like to look at maps at home, and try to locate these nations or you could help your child to find out a bit more about one of the countries, especially if you have visited, or have family and friends living there.
