Y4 Learning: The Weekly Update!

27th Sep 2024

Here is a message from Mr Folmer:

Another week has passed, and this one has been full of hard work and, for some, trying something new!

In Mathematics, we have started a new focus on addition and subtraction. We have been trying different strategies to support our addition calculations, and these strategies include identifying near doubles, rounding and adjusting, and partitioning.

We have almost finished our current English focus on writing a newspaper report and this week we edited and improved our writing, before publishing our reports (with a handwriting pen as an additional target for some children!).

Finally - and saving the best (and tastiest) until last - we enjoyed an interesting food tasting session! Our Design Technology focus is on healthy eating, and we have been discussing what makes a sandwich healthy.

To support us we tried different sandwich fillers, including lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheese, ham and houmous (but not at the same time). The children considered and evaluated the different appearances, smells, flavours and textures, of the different foods as part of their learning which inspired and promoted some quality conversations about healthy eating and the importance of being willing to try new foods with an open mind.

Well done to all our Y4 students!
