Y1 Science: Investigating Wild Plants and Flowers

24th May 2021

Today the children have been thinking about wild plants and flowers.

They were challenged to investigate which were the most common wild plants and flowers in the school grounds.

The children used a tally chart in order to record the data, remembering to add a 'gate' at every fifth point as they recorded each of the plants and flowers discovered.

Back in class the children checked their data to find a total and wrote a concluding sentence to explain what their data revealed.

Key words the children have encouraged to use include:

  • the names of various wild plants and flowers
  • the names of the parts of plants and flowers (stem, leaf, petal, root)
  • tally
  • data
