Y5 Football Tournament

6th Mar 2023

Here is an update from Miss Barrett

Last Friday, a squad made up of nine of our Y5 pupils ventured out from St John Fisher's to compete in a football tournament hosted by Brookhouse Junior School, alongside four teams from two other schools.

In the first game against Reignhead A our team managed a fantastic 7-0 victory leaving particularly happy smiles on the faces of Hugo, D'mari and Zayd (who scored goals) as well as a very excited me on the touchline!

The second game against Brookhouse B was a tough match, and despite a positive team performance, some fantastic saves from Luca and brilliant defensive work from Seb, Sam and Preston we were defeated 0-2

Despite this setback our team kept their held heads high and worked hard in order to secure a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the very talented Brookhouse A team.

Their final game was against Reignhead B and it was another really tough match in which our footballers played brilliantly together in order to secure a magnificent and well-deserved 3-0 victory with two goals from Alfie followed by Isaac's first goal of the tournament, which resulted in triumphant praise from all of his teammates.

This final game secured the team a place in the final against Brookhouse A team.

The exciting final ended in another 0-0 draw, and due to time constraints, the game could unfortunately not go into extra time or penalties, meaning that honours were shared!

I am incredibly proud of our footballers and the fantastic levels of sportsmanship and determination that they all displayed! They not only supported their teammates in their successes and mistakes but also the children from the other competing schools, always being the first to help them back up if they fell and shaking hands with their opponents after every game.

After voting from all the players on who they think deserved it most, Hugo was chosen to be our 'SJF Star of the Tournament' by his teammates, for his determination, hard work and excellent tactical mindset.

Congratulations to Hugo, and to our entire SJF squad: Alfie, D'Mari, Isaac, Luca, Preston, Sam, Seb and Zayd! We are incredibly proud of you all!
