Y6 English: Writing Dialogue
27th Apr 2024
This week in English the Y6 children have been learning how to write effective dialogue. They have studied the grammar and punctuation associated with writing speech, such as how to use inverted commas and reporting clauses. The children have also analysed examples of dialogue in different works of fiction, identifying the different ways in which various authors structure dialogue and use it to advance the plot of their story. Finally, we learnt ways to increase the sophistication of our writing when using dialogue, through techniques such as the omission of reporting clauses and including descriptive clauses of the speaker.
Next week, the children will draw upon this learning when writing their own piece of dialogue.
