Y6 Science: The Circulatory System

5th Oct 2024

This term, the children of Y6 have been studying the circulatory system. We began by identifying the various parts of the human heart, including the left and right atriums and ventricles, the pulmonary veins and arteries and the aorta. Building on this knowledge, the children have learned how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood travels through the heart.

This week, we have learnt about the three types of blood vessels: arteries, veins and capillaries. The children have produced excellent work detailing the journey of oxygenated blood through the network of of arteries, the transfer of oxygen from the capillaries into tissue and the process by which the veins carry blood containing carbon dioxide bac to the heart.

The children feel very proud of the wealth of knowledge that they have gathered so far in this unit of learning.
